Dick’s Sporting Goods, one of the country’s largest sporting goods retailers, is planning a new store in Kaufman County. According to public filings, the store could open a 60,000-square-foot, ground-up location at 11630 E. US Highway 80 in Forney, with construction expected to begin on November 30 and potentially wrap up by early June 2027.
The chain offers a full range of sporting goods, including sports equipment, athletic apparel, footwear, and accessories for individual and team sports, as well as outdoor activities such as camping, fishing, and hunting. Dick’s stores also typically feature specialty shop-in-shop areas dedicated to categories like golf, fitness, and footwear, offering a one-stop destination for athletes and outdoor enthusiasts alike.
What Now Dallas attempted to reach Dick’s Sporting Goods representatives for an opening timeline but did not receive a response by the time of publication. The planned single-story retail store would mark a significant addition to the city’s fast-growing commercial corridor along Highway 80.
Founded in 1948 by 18-year-old Richard “Dick” Stack, the company began as a modest fishing tackle shop in Binghamton, New York. What started as a single bait-and-tackle store has since grown into the largest sporting goods retailer in the United States, now operating more than 800 locations across 47 states.
The move would reflect Dick’s broader push into Texas. According to Wikipedia, the chain has been expanding its Texas footprint, most recently opening a new distribution center in Fort Worth to support more than 100 stores across the region.
