Jersey Freeze plans to open a new location in Shrewsbury later this year.
The iconic ice cream shop is sweetening its growth plans by launching franchising beyond Monmouth County. Freehold residents Pat Cabello, Dave Meisner and Joe Miller will lead the new spot, according to a social media post.
“When we made the decision to franchise, we knew it would only work if we found the right people, people who share our values, understand our commitment to quality, and appreciate the responsibility of carrying on a brand that has been part of New Jersey since 1952. We could not be happier to entrust Dave, Pat, and Joe with that responsibility,” the post read.
The Blackmore family founded the shop, which expanded into a restaurant serving fast-food classics by 1970. When Bruce Blackmore retired, he passed the reins to Katie Dinonno in 2014. Dinonno first worked at the shop as a teenager in the 1990s.
Jersey Freeze is known for its “legendary” soft serve, along with treats such as ice cream sandwiches, ice cream cakes and signature sundae boats. The sundae boats start with vanilla ice cream and hot fudge, with standout creations including the “Katie’s Kreation,” layered with peanut butter and Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups, and the “Cookie Explosion,” topped with caramel, chocolate chips and a chocolate chip cookie.
Cabello, Meisner and Miller plan to preserve Jersey Freeze’s longtime traditions by delivering the consistency and customer experience generations of families have come to expect. They also plan to continue supporting local schools, youth sports and first responders.
Jersey Freeze currently operates locations in Freehold, Holmdel and Colts Neck. The Shrewsbury location is just the beginning, with the shop also planning a franchise in the Naples, Fla., market.
An official opening date has not been announced, however, visit the Jersey Freeze website and follow along on Instagram and Facebook for the latest updates.
