Maltby Cafe is preparing to relocate from its longtime home in Snohomish County, according to the Puget Sound Business Journal. The beloved breakfast restaurant is expected to move into a new building within the upcoming Maltby Village development over the next 18 to 24 months.
A specific address has not yet been announced, but the new restaurant will be part of the redevelopment planned for the current Maltby Cafe property at 8809 Maltby Road.
The project, led by Westcott Homes, will redevelop the property into a mixed-use community featuring 91 luxury townhomes, approximately 10,000 square feet of retail space, outdoor gathering areas, and the café’s new location.
Opened in 1988 inside a former schoolhouse gymnasium and cafeteria built in 1937, Maltby Cafe has become a longtime destination for breakfast and lunch in Snohomish County. The restaurant is especially known for its oversized homemade cinnamon rolls, country-style cuisine, and all-day breakfast menu.
The new restaurant will be larger than the current space and is expected to include outdoor patio seating and a walk-up window for coffee and grab-and-go items. Ownership has also said the goal is to preserve the café’s family-friendly atmosphere.
The relocation follows years of operating in an aging building and comes after the restaurant overcame significant financial challenges during the pandemic, when community members helped keep the business open through a fundraising campaign.
