After more than four decades of service, Terrytown Cafe will shut down its operations on July 8. The cafe owners did not renew the lease after the building was sold.

Longtime Favorite Terrytown Cafe Says Goodbye

Founded by Phillip Songy, Terrytown Cafe is a landmark family-run cafe located on Carol Sue Avenue in Terrytown. The cafe began its journey as a small donut shop before it was transformed into a full-service restaurant.

Terrytown Cafe became known for its hand-cut donuts and traditional recipes. In 2015, the cafe was awarded Best Doughnuts Citywide by The Times-Picayune.

The menu includes glazed donuts, classic apple fritters, and king cake donuts. The cafe also serves breakfast, lunch, and all-day meal options.

Following Phillip Songy’s passing, his wife, Lynne Songy, took over the restaurant. In a Facebook post on July 7, the restaurant confirmed the closure.

The owners’ daughter shared the news in a Facebook post, writing, “I unfortunately have to come with some heartbreaking news to tell y’all that Terrytown Cafe’s last day will be tomorrow and we will sadly be closing our doors.”

After 41 wonderful years, the restaurant will be closing its doors on Wednesday, July 8, 2026. The restaurant thanked the community for its continued support.

What Led to the Closure

According to the official closure announcement, the building owners have sold the building. “It’s very unfortunate that it had to happen like this with very short notice, but we are staying positive as much as we can and know that God must have a better plan for us,” stated the restaurant owner.

In the post, the daughter reflected on the restaurant’s journey and the ups and downs it brought in their lives. The restaurant will serve breakfast and coffee for its last day of operation. “We sadly will not have donuts,” wrote the owner.

The Terrytown owners hope to celebrate the restaurant’s final day with its customers and encourage the community to visit one last time.
