An option for Balkan cuisine and desserts is coming to the suburb’s downtown in the near future.
The owner of Astoria Cafe and Bakery, a cakes and desserts business based in Chicago, is seeking a space in downtown Geneva this year. Right now, owner Tanja Jeftenic is operating out of a ghost kitchen in Lisle. Jeftenic told What Now Chicago there is not yet a set location, but it is coming soon.
The listed location for Astoria Cafe in Lisle right now is at 1107 Maple Avenue, south of the village’s downtown. This is while Jeftenic and the staff look for a brick-and-mortar location in Geneva’s downtown.
“A cozy Eastern European cafe from the Chicago’s Northwest side coming to downtown Geneva, featuring many sweet and savory specials from Serbia and the surrounding counties,” says the description on the Astoria Cafe website.
Astoria Cafe is of course known for its cakes, with European-style creations made with chocolates, fruits and many other toppings. Their cookie trays have also become popular, a Serbian tradition. Other dining options include Balkan dishes like komplet lepinja and goulash, with the whole menu available online.
As it gets closer to the opening, the team at Astoria Cafe will be revealing more information on the new location on their Facebook page.
