A longtime restaurant space in East Walpole is getting a fresh start.
204 Washington Tavern is preparing to take over the former 204 Washington Restaurant & Bar space at 204 Washington Street. According to Boston Restaurant Talk, new signage has recently gone up at the building, while the tavern’s recently launched Facebook page offers a first look at the refreshed exterior.
Commercial remodeling permits filed in early June 2026 identify John Jacob, owner of local Irish pub chain Napper Tandy’s, as the force behind the new concept. With locations in Norwood, Walpole, and Millis, Napper Tandy’s is known for its cozy pub fare, extensive draft beer selection, and lively neighborhood atmosphere.
While specific details and an official menu have not yet been released, permit documents indicate that 204 Washington Tavern plans to operate from 11 a.m. to 1 a.m. Monday through Friday, with earlier 9 a.m. openings on weekends.
Guests can look forward to a completely remodeled interior with all-new custom seating. The 4,009-square-foot restaurant will accommodate up to 120 guests across its indoor dining room and 60-foot outdoor patio, which was recently approved by the town.
In addition to the East Walpole restaurant, Jacob is planning to open a new dining and drinking destination in the former Clarke’s at Faneuil Hall space in downtown Boston, according to a city licensing board hearing page.
204 Washington Restaurant & Bar closed its doors in 2024 after a 35-year run. The neighborhood eatery was known for its casual American fare, including burgers and fried seafood.
What Now Boston has reached out to Jacob for additional information about 204 Washington Tavern, including its anticipated opening timeline, and will share updates as they become available. In the meantime, follow the restaurant on Facebook and Instagram for the latest announcements.
