J. Arthur, a neighborhood bar and restaurant, has rebranded as The Jay at 1044 Gerrard Street East in Toronto.
The bar, owned and operated by Eric Jordan, Will Johnston, and Nicola Rapko, announced the name change in an Instagram post, revealing that the new name replaces J. Arthur while the ownership and team remain the same, according to Insauga. The rebrand keeps the bar’s existing food, drinks, and menu, with customers able to continue visiting the same location. The new signage on the building now reads The Jay, marking the transition to the updated name.
The name change connects with the building’s existing design, which features a large blue jay mural on the exterior. The bar shared that while the name has changed, the concept and team behind the business remain the same. The Jay has not announced any major changes to its offerings as part of the rebrand.
Before becoming The Jay, the bar operated as J. Arthur and became known as a local gathering spot in Toronto’s east end. The business was recognized for events such as its “yappy hour,” where customers could bring their dogs to enjoy drink specials and treats for pets. The menu, including items like its $10-per-pound wings, remains available.
The Jay will continue to operate as a neighborhood bar with the same staff and food and drink offerings. The location will continue serving customers with its existing menu while introducing the new name to the community.
In an Instagram post announcing the change, the bar wrote: “Arthur’s had a good run…but we had to ask him to leave. Don’t worry, we kept all the good stuff. The food. The drinks. The vibes. The people. Welcome to The Jay. Same neighbourhood. Same great team. Same place you’ll want to spend your summer.”
