A new coffee shop centered on faith, bonding, and community is planning to debut on Justin Road in Denton County. According to public filings, Fern and Finch Coffee is set to open at 3090 Justin Road, Suite 305, in Highland Village, with owner Jodelle Groves telling What Now Dallas that she and her husband and co-founder, Tim Groves, are targeting a late September opening.
Groves said the Highland Village location was chosen because of its ties to the community she and her husband have called home. “Community is really important to us,” she told What Now Dallas.
The shop’s name reflects the blend of backgrounds behind it. Groves grew up in the Seattle area, while her husband is originally from Kentucky, and the two moved to Texas roughly three years ago. “Our colors will be rich and lush, inspired by the beauty of the Pacific Northwest,” Groves said, while the shop’s Southern hospitality draws from her husband’s roots. The concept sources many of its ingredients locally and from the Pacific Northwest, including coffee roasted by Oak Cliff Coffee Roasters and teas tied to a well-known Pike Place Market tea shop in Seattle.
According to Groves, Fern & Finch Coffee’s philosophy is rooted in belonging. “We know how that feels to walk into places and ask yourself, ‘Do I belong here?’ Our heart is to make sure that everyone who walks in truly feels like they belong at Fern & Finch,” she told What Now Dallas.
The idea for the shop grew out of a shift in Groves’ own career. As a former Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) nurse for two decades before moving into aesthetic nursing, Groves said hospitality has always been close to her heart. “I felt I wanted to do something that was near and dear to our hearts, and hospitality is my love language. We love to host people… the best conversations are had over coffee, and so it just seemed like a natural fit for us.”
As part of their commitment to the community, Fern & Finch has also committed to supporting CYT Dallas, a nonprofit focused on youth theater arts, and already hosted its first community give-back event earlier this year. Groves said she’s open to expanding to additional locations if the concept resonates with other communities, though for now, the couple is focused on getting Highland Village to become the space they envision.
