Changes are coming to a popular grocery store near W 14 Mile Road.
Jarbou Ronnisch Construction recently broke ground on the latest Kroger coming to 155 Midtown Avenue in Commerce Township. This will replace the current Kroger in the plaza just south of the construction site. As the structure is now being worked on, an estimated opening date is not yet available.
From the post, the site will be a 104,000-square-foot store accompanied by a Kroger gas station. The project was first proposed to the township in January 2025, and was originally supposed to be a residential apartment component. Renderings show the new grocery store will have a more modern look, with multiple entrances in the front and a large parking lot.
Kroger currently operates around 121 grocery stores around Michigan, mostly in the Southeast part of the state. The other two locations in Commerce Township are at 47060 W Pontiac Trail and 2905 Union Lake Road.
The area where the Kroger is being built is close to the operating store, at the intersection of Springvale Drive. This is behind a Chipotle, 2941 Mediterranean Street Food and Starbucks. Home Depot and Staples are on the other side of Springvale Drive.
Jarbou Ronnisch Construction and Kroger have not yet responded to What Now Detroit’s request for comment on construction progress.
