A new Burrito Shak is planned for the Flowers Plantation area as part of the upcoming Tuscan Ridge Commons retail development. Franchisee Chase Riker told WhatNow Charlotte the restaurant is currently targeting a 2027 opening.
According to the Triangle Business Journal, the restaurant will occupy space in the 13,664-square-foot shopping center planned at the intersection of N.C. 42 and Tuscan Ridge Way, which has a Clayton address. Riker is developing the project, with Burrito Shak among the first confirmed tenants.
“We will own the Burrito Shak and Hotworx,” Riker told WhatNow Charlotte. “Both the Domino’s and Club Pilates franchisees, which are also coming to this space, own multiple locations in the Triangle and bring extensive experience.”
According to Burrito Shak’s website, the fast-casual concept was founded in Hampstead in 2015 and serves chef-crafted burritos, tacos, bowls, quesadillas and salads. The brand has expanded across North Carolina and continues to grow with additional locations in development.
Riker said his family’s ties to the Flowers Plantation area made the project a natural fit.
“My parents have lived in Flowers Plantation for a few years and we love the area,” he said. “The area is rapidly growing, and we felt the location and customer base were perfect for both of our concepts. Retail space in the area was hard to find and expensive, so we decided to explore development. We found a great location to build a really top-notch building.”
Riker said the team is taking a thoughtful approach to the tenant mix while designing a shopping center that complements the surrounding community.
“The community can look forward to a really well-built shopping center that fits the area’s aesthetic,” he said. “We are being very selective about our tenant mix to focus on the community’s needs and want to find other tenants who can truly add value to the area. Burrito Shak will bring chef-crafted recipes and high-quality, freshly prepared food to the quick-service space.”
Looking ahead, Riker told WhatNow Charlotte his team is actively exploring additional expansion opportunities for Burrito Shak throughout the region.
