This month, construction officially started on a new Publix planned for Bull Street and Colonial Drive in Columbia’s BullStreet District.
Word first got out about the new Publix back in December, and according to a video published to YouTube earlier this month by Columbia South Carolina Lifestyle, work has now begun. The video shows footage of groundbreaking on-site.
“This major development marks one of the most significant additions to the Bull Street Project, bringing a full‑service grocery store to one of the fastest‑growing mixed‑use districts in the state,” says the video description. “The BullStreet District continues to transform with new residential buildings, commercial spaces, restaurants, offices, and community areas. The Publix build represents a key anchor for the district, providing everyday essentials, fresh food options, and walkable convenience for residents and visitors.”
“This has been the number one request of Columbia residents for BullStreet since its inception,” Columbia City Councilman Tyler Bailey said in coverage on WISTV.com back in December. “It is exciting to see BullStreet take shape and meet the needs of the Columbia community, especially given the lack of access to grocery stores for many of the surrounding neighborhoods. They have long advocated for a grocery store in this area and now we’ll have one.”
The December announcement predicted a summer 2026 groundbreaking, so it looks like everything is proceeding on schedule!
“We are thrilled to continue our growth across Columbia with a new location in the BullStreet District,” Jared Glover, media relations manager for Publix Super Markets, said in the WISTV.com coverage. “We look forward to welcoming customers to their new Publix and providing them with the premier service and quality products they know and love.”
