The hot chicken chain has sights set on the west side of the state.

A franchise of Dave’s Hot Chicken called Southern Rock Restaurants is planning two new locations in the area, at 3921 28th Street SE in Grand Rapids and 3148 44th Street SW in Grandville. These will be the first restaurants from the national chicken chain in West Michigan. The Grandville spot is coming around the end of the year, while the Grand Rapids location will open around spring or summer 2027.

Southern Rock Restaurants operates both Mcalister’s and Dave’s Hot Chicken locations around the country, in states including Ohio, Michigan, Indiana, Illinois Iowa, Georgia and Tennessee, now up to 191 locations and growing.

“We’re excited to introduce Dave’s Hot Chicken to both Grand Rapids and Grandville as we continue expanding throughout the Midwest. As we evaluate opportunities for growth, we’re focused on communities that are experiencing strong momentum, have a dynamic local identity, and value quality dining experiences. West Michigan checked all of those boxes,” said a statement from Southern Rock Restaurants.

Menus vary by location, with popular items being chicken tenders, chicken sliders, cheese fries and milkshakes. It is an alcohol-free restaurant, and soft drinks are also added. Most meals range from $10 to $15.

The Grand Rapids restaurant is coming to the north side of 28th Street SE, not far from Gerald R. Ford International Airport. This will be in front of a Mcalister’s Deli, and next to Olive Garden. Other chains across the street include Red Lobster and Denny’s.

Moving to Grandville, it will be on the south end of 44th Street SW, near the intersection of Ivanrest Avenue SW. It is sharing the building with Fruition Acai & Coffee, as well as Panda Express. A Paris Baguette location is also planned for this plaza.
