After just one year of operation, the West St. Petersburg location of Red Mesa Mercado is set to shutter. The popular Mexican restaurant will serve its final dinner on August 16. In the closure announcement, the restaurant team stated that the chain has been struggling to sustain the business.

West St. Pete’s Red Mesa Mercado Sets August 16 as Final Day

The Red Mesa Mercado West St. Pete location was established in October 2025. The restaurant chain is well known for its California and street-style Mexican cuisine. The menu includes breakfast burritos, late-night offerings, and other Mexican-inspired dishes.

The Red Mesa Mercado location, part of Red Mesa Group, will close on Aug. 16. In an Instagram post, the restaurant team shared that after careful consideration, the restaurant group has made the difficult decision to close permanently.

The closure follows the recent shutdown of Red Mesa Cantina. The Cantina location was permanently closed two months ago, after 16 years of service, according to a St. Pete Rising report.

“We worked hard to adapt the concept, but after months of trying, it was no longer sustainable,” the team explained. They highlighted that despite all their efforts, the economic challenges and business risks were the main reason for the closure.

In the post, the restaurant mentioned that they are currently focused on helping the team through this transition. “Moving as many employees as possible into positions at our remaining restaurants and continuing to support them however we can,” said the team.

As the restaurant closure approaches, the team encouraged the community to stop by and enjoy one more meal. The Red Mesa Mercado West team thanked the community for their support in its final farewell message.
