What Now has been following the growth of the smash-hit South Florida-born taco chain Talkin’ Tacos for some time, reporting on the brand’s South Florida expansion plans back in March 2023, and on its planned entry to the Tampa Bay market in November of that year.

Since then, Talkin’ Tacos has grown to well over 30 locations, three of which in the Tampa Bay market. Of these, the Westchase and Clearwater locations are corporate stores, and the location at 1819 E Fowler Ave in Temple Terrace is headed up by multi-concept franchisee Black Apron Hospitality.

“We saw the opportunity, and saw that it was a halal brand…” Black Apron Founder & Partner Mohsin Hussain told What Now back in 2023. “Then we had the food and it was phenomenal. Mind blown. The best birria we’ve had.”

Black Apron Hospitality is going through a serious growth period, as the group prepares to debut Big Dave’s Cheesesteaks in the Tampa Bay region. Meanwhile, it’s also at work on its second Talkin’ Tacos, this time in Brandon, at 1918 West Brandon Blvd.

What Now spoke with Mohsin Hussain on Wednesday about plans for the new location.

How has the reception been in Temple Terrace? What Now asked.

“The reception has been phenomenal. We can’t thank Tampa enough for the love we’ve been shown. Tampa has a lot of taco options—it’s a foodie city. But we’re coming up on two years, and, month over month, it’s been growth. Everybody loves it, families, students. We do lots of catering, and live events and festivals.”

The Brandon location will open in a space that formerly housed a T-Mobile Store. It will join restaurants like Anthony’s Coal-Fired Pizza and Annie’s Tea House.

“It’s in a plaza very close to the I-75 exit, right by the Brandon Exchange mall. It’s at a very good area for exposure, right on the main street.”
