A Baltimore-based bakery is helping to make sure the DMV ends 2026 on a sweet note. Kneads Bakeshop & Cafe is bringing its delicious pastries and artisan coffees to a new DC location and is on track to open before the year is out.

A press release provided to What Now DC states that Kneads’ upcoming 221 Tingey Street SE storefront will span 5,500 square feet and “will feature a signature pastry counter, full-service bar, spacious dining room, dedicated study area for guests to work remotely, and an expansive outdoor patio.”

Co-owner and broker of Kneads, Kira Paterakis explains that the Navy Yard location is well suited to the concept’s goals and aspirations, saying “We’re thrilled to continue our growth in D.C. and break bread with our new friends in Navy Yard. Thompson Washington D.C. is an exceptional destination, and this location allows us to serve both neighborhood residents and hotel guests with the fresh baking, hospitality, and community-focused atmosphere that defines our brand.”

The new storefront will play an important role in Kneads’ future: “The new location also serves as a strategic hub for expanding Kneads’ wholesale operations throughout D.C., supporting the company’s vision of delivering fresh, artisan breads and baked goods to local restaurants, hotels, and event venues across the city.

Kneads currently has 3 bakeries open and operational across Baltimore, with 3 more in development-2 in DC and 1 in Chevy Chase. The chain is dedicated to offering a high-quality dining experience to its visitors-as the press release states: “At the heart of Kneads is a commitment to quality and craftsmanship. Every morning, breads, pastries, and baked goods are freshly prepared using premium ingredients and delivered daily to each café, ensuring guests enjoy the freshest products possible.
