Big Bad Breakfast is preparing to open its newest location at 330 Franklin Road in Brentwood Place, bringing the Southern-focused breakfast and brunch concept to Brentwood. The restaurant announced the new location on its website, though an official opening date had not yet been publicly announced.
In an interview with WhatNow Nashville, founder and CEO John Currence said permitting delays have affected the project, but the restaurant is now targeting a mid-October opening.
The Brentwood restaurant will be the brand’s fifth location in the greater Nashville area, according to Currence. The founder said the company has had its eye on Brentwood for years and believes the new site is the right fit for the brand.
“We’ve had our eye on Brentwood for years and looked for the right opportunity. We feel like this is really an absolute diamond for us,” Currence said.
Currence also pointed to the activity surrounding the center as a major draw. “It’s situated in a center that’s full of activity. The parking lot stays full all the time, and I can’t think of another neighborhood in town that would be more perfect for us,” he said.
The Brentwood location will offer the same scratch-made approach found throughout Big Bad Breakfast. Currence said the company makes its food in-house daily, including its jellies and jams, while its bacon, sausage, ham and turkey are produced at a company-owned facility in North Alabama.
“We make everything from scratch in the store every day, down to our jellies and jams,” Currence said. “We control the quality of it end to end.”
Big Bad Breakfast grew out of Currence’s fine-dining background and his belief that breakfast deserved the same culinary attention given to other meals. “In 2008, it just dawned on me that nobody was giving the same attention to breakfast as everybody was giving to lunch and dinner,” he said. “If we elevated the breakfast meal and gave it the proper recognition, people would resonate with it. And it has.”
Currence confirmed that Brentwood will be Big Bad Breakfast’s 32nd store. The company has been opening roughly five locations a year for the past six or seven years, but he said the brand is using the current economic environment to strengthen its operations before accelerating growth again.
“We could keep doing what we’re doing and get to 50 and just sort of cobble things together,” Currence said. “Or we could stop and regroup and look at the tools we’re going to need to get us from 50 to 100 and try to build that team now, so that when we arrive at 50, we’re ready to jump off in a bigger way.”
Big Bad Breakfast currently has locations in Franklin and Spring Hill, along with its broader Southeast footprint. The Brentwood opening will add another Williamson County restaurant as Currence and his team prepare the brand for its next stage of expansion.
