A Michigan community favorite taproom is preparing for permanent closure. After only three years of service, North End Taproom will serve its last drink at the end of the month. The taproom plans to host a series of farewell events for its final week of service.
Royal Oak’s North End Taproom to Close
A family-owned, one-of-a-kind self-pour taproom in Michigan, North End Taproom is ending its journey after a brief run. The taproom operates on a self-pour, pay-by-the-ounce model.
The taproom was founded by Michigan-based husband-and-wife couple, Jon and Katheryn Stoia. According to the official website, the couple advocated in Lansing and helped Michigan lawmakers to pass Senate Bill 656 to legalize the self-pour format across the state. The bill was passed in 2023, and the North End Taproom was established in 2024.
The taproom features 40 self-pour taps offering craft beer, national brands, hard cider, seltzers, wine, cold-brew coffee, and non-alcoholic options. Along with that, the taproom also offers elevated pub fare and hosts regular events.
With a social media announcement, the taproom shared the closure news. Located at 111 S Main Street in Royal Oak, Michigan, North End Taproom will be closing its doors on August 30.
The taproom owners thanked the Royal Oak community and said, “We are beyond grateful for your support over the past three years. We appreciate each and every one of you who stopped in to pour your own beer and support our crazy idea of opening a taproom.”
The owners also thanked their staff.
Final Week Events Announced
For its final week of operation, the taproom has announced a series of events to celebrate the final chapter of its journey. On August 19, the taproom is hosting a Campus Rivalry Trivia, and the taproom’s last regular Sunday night trivia will be hosted on August 23.
The Grown Up Book Fair will be held on August 26 and August 27. More updates about the hours and availability of products will be shared on social media.
In the closure announcement post, the taproom owners encouraged the community members to visit and pour one more drink before its last call. They wrote, “Cheers to one last week of drinking a beer with us!”
