Cafe Prince in Detroit’s Core City is closing next week after three years in business. A new concept will soon take over the coffee shop space.
Cafe Prince to Shutter Its Doors Next Week
Cafe Prince is located at 4884 Grand River Avenue, Unit 1A, in Detroit. The team behind the cafe shared a closure announcement with a social media post.
In the announcement, the team wrote, “And now it’s time for our next evolution. On Sunday, August 30th, Cafe Prince will close.”
The cafe team explained that the cafe remained in a constant state of evolution, and operating the cafe was more a work of art than running a business. “We changed the menu in a manner that inspired us and our customers; we staffed the cafe to offer speed, quality, and novelty—all in an effort to give energy, not take it,” said the team.
The post also added that the cafe has served more than 2,800 guests per month during its brief period of operation.
Talking about the closure, the Cafe Prince team said that the search for the “ideal operator was long and diligent.”
The team thanked the community and mentioned a special appreciation note for “Madeline, Maddie, Michelle, Kody, Nathalia, Aloette, and Eden—and to our founding partner, Arad, who now lives in New York City with his family!”

Story Behind the Cafe
Philip Kafka, a real estate developer and the owner of Cafe Prince, founded the cafe in February 2023, according to a Detroit Free Press report. The cafe served the Core City community for three years.
The cafe focuses on energy, health, and connection. Cafe Prince features colored walls, aesthetic furniture, art, music, and a mouthwatering menu that they update and change.
In the post, the team wrote, “Always aiming to offer more people better product, to serve Core City, and to continue to be inspired and proud of what we serve. Always trying to level up.”
The team also informed that a new establishment is set to open in the former Cafe Prince space on September 4.
“A new cafe, new owners, and a new idea will open in its place. The next Level UP. We are confident that Detroit and Core City will be very excited about what’s on the way,” the team mentioned. Even though the Cafe Prince chapter is closing in Detroit, the new concept will open soon.
