Sid’s Tavern is preparing to open at 121 S. King St. in Seattle’s Pioneer Square neighborhood, according to a Washington state liquor license application. Owner Farshid Varamini told What Now Seattle that the family is targeting a mid-September opening.

Varamini described Sid’s as a modern tavern designed for residents, sports fans, and other visitors to Pioneer Square.

“I feel the area needs a place where locals and visitors can visit and socialize on event days and non-event days,” Varamini said. He envisions the tavern as a modern-day version of “Cheers.”

The menu will focus on elevated American fare, including smash burgers, steak frites, cheesesteaks, and salads.

Sid’s Tavern extends Varamini’s nearly three-decade connection to Occidental Avenue. He began operating a hot dog cart there 28 years ago and later added another cart, The People’s Burger food trucks, and Gantry Public House near Lumen Field and T-Mobile Park.

“I am a huge Seattle sports fan and love Occidental Avenue,” Varamini said.

Varamini and his wife, Marchelle, own Sid’s Tavern together. Their son Payden and Varamini’s brother-in-law, Justin Klippenstein, have also been key in creating the new tavern.

“We build our bars from the ground up,” Varamini said, adding that the family handles its own design and construction and shares a love for Seattle sports.

Sid’s Tavern will add another family-built business to the part of Seattle where Varamini started his hospitality career. He wants the tavern to serve stadium crowds on event days and neighborhood regulars throughout the rest of the week.
