Sprouts Farmers Market is preparing to open at 555 9th St., Ste. 6A, San Francisco, bringing the Phoenix-based grocery chain to the city’s SoMa neighborhood. Acadia Realty, which owns the center, currently lists Sprouts as coming soon. The upcoming store will occupy space formerly associated with Nordstrom Rack, which closed at the property in 2021, and will join existing tenants including Trader Joe’s and The Container Store.
Sprouts is known for a produce-forward grocery format that emphasizes fresh foods alongside products catering to different dietary preferences. According to the company, its stores carry organic, gluten-free, plant-based, keto, paleo and non-GMO products, among other grocery categories.
The company operates more than 400 stores across the United States, including a large California presence.
Sprouts Farmers Market says its approach to healthy living extends beyond the products it sells, emphasizing how food is grown, sourced and shared. The company’s stated purpose of helping people “live and eat better” informs its decisions, from working with farmers focused on caring for the land to the way it operates its stores and supports the communities where it does business.
An opening date for the San Francisco store has not been announced publicly. The company’s arrival will mark its first location within San Francisco proper, expanding its existing Bay Area footprint into one of the region’s largest urban markets.
