Located at 7811 Rivers Ave., North Charleston’s Bahama Breeze is the brand’s last restaurant in South Carolina. The restaurant chain from Darden Restaurants, which once boasted dozens of locations nationwide, is winding down. The Rivers Avenue location is one of just 11 still remaining, says recent coverage by the Post and Courier, and it will close its doors on October 26.
This is not the end of the story for Darden Restaurants at the site, however. The space at 7811 Rivers Ave. will transition to a different Darden concept: Chuy’s Tex-Mex.
“Where fun and flavor collide,” Chuy’s serves up a selection of Tex-Mex dishes, featuring “fresh ingredients, made from scratch, every day.”
“Way back in 1982, Austin, Texas became the home of the place that does real Tex-Mex better than anyone. Yes, we are talking about us!” says the Chuy’s website. “In the late 2000s, with only fifteen restaurants around Texas, we decided it was time to let the universe in on our little Tex-Mex secret. It just didn’t feel right to keep our made from scratch dishes and out of this world service and atmosphere to ourselves anymore.”
Chuy’s Tex-Mex already has one South Carolina location in Greenville. Now it’s on its way to the Lowcountry.
