The former Scratch Pastificio space will soon be home to new dining options.

From The Daily Herald, chef and restaurateur Fabio Viviani is getting ready to bring two restaurants to downtown Barrington at 133 Park Avenue. The first will be BOCADO Tapas, set to open sometime this fall, followed by a smaller Japanese spot called Retoro downstairs. This comes sometime in early 2027, but official opening dates for both restaurants have not been finalized.

Viviani has a long history of running restaurants around the country in cities like Las Vegas, St. Petersburg, Florida and Cabazon, California. Other Chicago concepts he has been behind include Bar Siena in West Loop, Prime & Provisions and Jars. At the time What Now Chicago reached out to Viviani, he was not available for comment.

For BODACO, Viviani is going for a Spanish-led menu, with many shareable plates and plenty of options for the tapas. The Rotero menu has not been released, but those stopping in can expect omakase-style sushi and other Japanese dishes.

The new concepts will be on the south end of Park Avenue, next to Gigi Wine Bar and Bistro. This part of downtown is full of other concepts including Francesca’s Famiglia, Fix Sandwich Shop and Boloney’s East. The Barrington Metra station is a short walk east.

The team has not yet set up a social media or website for both concepts, but more information will be released in the coming weeks.
