A popular modern Mexican restaurant in Charlotte permanently closed its doors. After more than two years of business, Maiz Agua Sal served its last meal to the community on September 6. The owners announced the closure in a social media post.

Maiz Agua Sal, also popularly known as MAS, was a Mexican restaurant in Charlotte’s Wesley Heights neighborhood. The restaurant was located at 1018 Jay St #110 in Charlotte. It offered a scratch-made menu that included items like tortillas, tacos, house-made salsas, and more.
With an Instagram post, the restaurant owners, Alyson and Dan, shared the closure news with the community. They wrote, “On Sunday, Maiz Agua Sal served our last meal, and our doors are now closed.”
The owners thanked the Wesley Heights community, staff, and their loyal customers for their continued support. They said, “To every person who pressed tortillas, grilled a steak, shaved corn from the cob, shook a cocktail, washed a dish, welcomed a guest at the door, or took care of folks at the table, thank you.”

About the Restaurant
Led by chef Jonathan Olvera, the restaurant’s menu was completely inspired by traditional Mexican cooking and flavors. The restaurant was known for its house-made heirloom corn tortillas, which were pressed daily, along with tacos and other Mexican dishes.
The restaurant was operated by a wife and husband team, Alyson and Dan Davis of ARDR Hospitality. The restaurant group also operates Lincoln Street Kitchen & Cocktails and Craft Tasting Room, according to the Charlotte Observer report.
In the post, the owners confirmed that several team members of MAS will be moving to sister restaurants, Lincoln Street Kitchen & Cocktails and Craft Tasting Room.
“And while the doors at Maiz Agua Sal are closed, this isn’t the last you’ll see of many of the people who made it special,” stated the owners.
The MAS restaurant closure marked the end of an innovative yet traditional Mexican dining journey in the Charlotte community.
