It is not the end of a favored sandwich and wrap option in the city.
From Rock River Current, the owners of both Tom & Jerry’s and Candy Cloud have come to an agreement to reopen Beef-a-Roo at 1680 N Alpine Road in Rockford. The location closed in July, and the team has been working hard to bring it back to life under new ownership. They are reportedly looking to open sometime in November.
Bob Grottke has been the owner of Tom & Jerry’s for about seven years. It has become a popular gyro and burger spot in Rockford over the years, and he has been wanting to save the Beef-a-Roo brand for a while. On the Candy Cloud side, Adam Edwards the founder operates the coffee and tea chain around Chicagoland and decided to support Grottke in this new endeavor.
The Beef-a-Roo in Rockford had many sandwich, salad and wrap options, along with chicken, baked potato and shakes. It is not confirmed if a new menu is being introduced. A location is still listed in Freeport, west of Rockford.
The space is on the west side of N Alpine Road, across from the Edgebrook Shops shopping center. Other restaurants in this area include Great Harvest Bread Co, BD4: Burger Joint and Lucha Cantina. This is on Rockford’s northeast side.
After the Alpine Road location opens, the owners are hoping to debut more restaurants in the years to come. What Now Chicago has reached out to both Grottke and Edwards and is awaiting further comment.
