Development is happening in the downtown near the Illinois border.

The City of Hammond recently announced Tooties is coming to 475 Fayette Street this year. This comes alongside work being done on the Hammond Train station, which will be finished sometime in 2027. An opening date for the restaurant hasn’t been announced, but construction is underway.

Owner Batiste Haywood, from the Hammond area, originally opened a location called Tooties Chicken and Fish at 6022 Columbia Avenue which is now closed. From the post, this will be more of an upscale concept, with outdoor seating and lighting. The space will also feature a full bar and is to be open seven days a week.

“I’m excited to open another eatery in my hometown, especially with all the momentum happening in Downtown Hammond. There’s so much energy and growth taking place, and I’m thrilled to be a part of it. I also love the location and the fact that I’ll be just steps away from the Downtown Train Station. I think that proximity will be a great benefit for both my business and the community.” Haywood said in the city post.

The restaurant space is on the north side of Fayette Street, across from 18th Street Brewery & Distillery. This area is considered central Hammond, and only a couple blocks from the Illinois border. The Brew Box and EAT American restaurant are also a short walk from the development.

The new Tooties does not have a social media or website set up as of yet. What Now Chicago has reached out to Haywood and is awaiting comment.
