Bagels & Co. is set to open its first North Carolina location at 414 Deacon Blvd., Winston-Salem, at The Grounds, a 100-acre mixed-use development near Wake Forest University. According to The Grounds, the breakfast and lunch concept will be part of the development’s 42,000-square-foot Retail & Dining Village, which is expected to open in Fall 2027.

The Grounds announced Bagels & Co. as one of its first five founding retailers on September 16. According to the development’s announcement, the concept has a strong presence in university communities and will offer handcrafted bagels baked fresh daily, homemade schmears, made-to-order sandwiches, and quality coffee at its Winston-Salem location.

Bagels & Co. is known for its bagel-focused breakfast and lunch menu, with the concept designed around college towns and communities. The Grounds said the brand’s growth strategy is centered on university communities, making its location near Wake Forest University a natural fit for the development.

Construction is underway at The Grounds, with city permit records showing commercial new-building work for the Retail Village. A permit for 519 Deacon Blvd., for example, identifies the project as a commercial new building and describes The Grounds as a five-building development incorporating retail and food-and-beverage spaces.

The Grounds is being developed as a larger mixed-use district combining restaurants, retail, housing, office space, trails, greenways, patios, lawns, and gathering areas. According to The Grounds, additional retailers are expected to be announced by the first quarter of 2027 ahead of the Fall 2027 opening.
