As the Mississippi Gulf Coast continues its long post-Katrina redevelopment, the upcoming opening of The Sand Bar in Waveland will mark a major milestone. Essentially a flagship operation from local developers, The Sand Bar will offer a family-friendly environment that centers around live music, fresh Gulf seafood, and sweeping coastal views. The open-air ground floor will have a full bar and casual snack options, while the climate-controlled second floor will have a dedicated oyster bar and patio seating overlooking the water. The sandbar will be located on Coleman Avenue in Waveland, an important stretch of road that was once teeming with thriving businesses. Development along the low-elevation avenue has lagged behind that of other areas along the Gulf Coast due to concerns about its vulnerability to future storms.
