MacLeod Ale Brewing Co. is a British-inspired craft brewery at 14741 Calvert St., Van Nuys, Los Angeles. The brewery announced that it will be closing its Van Nuys taproom on September 27. The closure brings an end to the brewery’s over a decade-long presence in the neighborhood.
In the closure post, the brewery stated that the family business is no longer viable, resulting in the decision to close. They thanked the community, staff, and everyone who has been a part of its journey over the years.
The brewery initially planned to close September 30 but later moved the date to September 27. The brewery said the earlier date would give its team time to clean up and complete remaining tasks. The brewery invites the community to visit the place before its closure. While its pizza kitchen is closed, it continues to pour many MacLeod beers on tap.

Impact on the Community
MacLeod Ale Brewing Co. was founded by Jennifer Febre-Boase and Alastair Boase. It opened its original brewery and taproom in Van Nuys in 2014. The name comes from Alastair’s Scottish family heritage. Jennifer’s background in England and Alastair’s Scottish roots helped shape the brewery’s British theme.
The brewery originally focused almost entirely on cask ale, a traditional British beer style that is naturally conditioned and served at cellar temperature. It later expanded into traditional draft and nitro beers and added food to the menu. Its beer lineup has included Yorkshire-style pale ales, Bitters, Stouts, Porters, Lagers, and other British-inspired beers.
The news of its closure has prompted disappointed reactions from longtime customers. One customer on Instagram commented, “Spent my 24th, 25th, and 30th bdays here – knew this would come but not so soon. Forever part of the tapestry of Van Nuys and LA.”
Another customer wrote, “Very sad to hear this. We loved going to Macleods when we lived in LA. The old fish and chips truck, the cask ale festival, the ales on cask and on gas. Such a great place.”
