A new Thai restaurant is headed to Capitol Hill, where the team behind Denver’s Den Thai is preparing to open a second location focused on Thai street food.
Called Den Thai Street, the restaurant is planned for 800 Sherman Street, the former home of Reckless Noodles. The new concept could open as soon as October, according to a recent report from The Denver Post.
Den Thai Street will be operated by married couple Dom and Chef Jay Anderson, who opened Den Thai Tapas & Wine at 2200 Market Street in 2025.
While the original Den Thai combines Thai cuisine with a tapas-style format, the new restaurant will put more emphasis on the street-food dishes Chef Jay grew up with and has developed throughout his culinary career.
Among the dishes planned for Den Thai Street are kua gai, a stir-fried noodle dish, and a potato-shaped version of massaman curry. Some favorites from the original Den Thai menu are also expected to make the move to Capitol Hill, including its crispy duck panang.
Chef Jay’s approach to Thai cooking is closely tied to his family. According to Den Thai’s website, he learned the foundations of Thai cooking from his grandmother in Thailand, who taught him how to balance the flavors of Central Thai cuisine.
He later continued developing his cooking through restaurant work in Las Vegas before bringing his take on Thai food to Denver.
The new restaurant will also have a distinct look of its own. The Andersons are renovating the Sherman Street space, incorporating elements inspired by Thai culture and spirituality into the design.
The concept will feature red drapes, colorful ribbons and warm lighting, with the restaurant’s existing mermaid décor also being incorporated into the space. Den Thai Street is expected to serve lunch and dinner, with the restaurant initially planning a break between the two services during its first few days.
The Andersons are currently waiting on final permits as renovations continue. While an exact opening date has not been announced, the team is targeting an October debut.
For now, Den Thai Street is shaping up to be a more casual, street-food-focused counterpart to the original Den Thai, giving the restaurant group another foothold in Denver’s dining scene.
