Alchemy Surf Resort, a 25-acre surf and wellness destination planned for Placer County, just north of Roseville’s city limit, won Planning Commission approval on Sept. 24. The project is part of the larger Placer One development and is expected to become California’s largest inland surf destination, though groundbreaking isn’t slated until summer 2027, with construction running another 18 to 24 months after that.
Inland Surf Company founders Chris and Andrea Gallardo are behind the project, pairing Chris’s background as a former professional snowboarder with Andrea’s experience in healthcare operations. Their stated goal is to build “a gathering place for inland families centered on surfing, recreation and wellness,” a vision that stretches well beyond a typical water park.
The centerpiece is a five-acre surf lagoon built on Wavegarden Cove technology, capable of producing 20 different wave types across four zones, with individual rides lasting 20 to 25 seconds. A separate deep-water standing wave powered by Citywave technology will give visitors a second way to surf without ever leaving the Sacramento region. Beyond the water features, the resort’s roughly 28,000-square-foot surf center will include a skate plaza, climbing walls, trampolines and a children’s play area.
Overnight guests will have options ranging from a 100-room hotel with a rooftop bar to 22 standalone bungalows, alongside a beach club, restaurants, spas and event space built into the same footprint. With Sacramento International Airport just 30 minutes away, the project is positioned to draw visitors well beyond the immediate Placer County area once it eventually opens its doors.
