Onigiri Burgers is preparing to open a second Sacramento location at 2621 Marconi Ave., with an opening targeted for November. Owner Rick You confirmed to What Now Sacramento that the restaurant is not open yet but is moving toward a launch this year.
The family-owned local business is a Japanese fast-casual concept built around onigiri, the traditional Japanese rice ball. The menu is known for its nori bites and rice-based burgers that use pressed rice in place of a bun, a style that has gained a following in Japan and in parts of California. The restaurant has built a strong reputation, holding a 4.9-star rating on more than 340 Google reviews, according to its online listing.
The brand’s current Sacramento restaurant is at 4001 Freeport Blvd., Suite 110, in the Land Park area. It is open daily and reviewers frequently highlight the creative menu, fresh ingredients and reasonable prices, which suggests the new location could draw a similar following.
The Marconi Ave. corridor runs through the heart of Arden-Arcade, a densely populated, largely commercial area just northeast of downtown Sacramento. The stretch is lined with shopping centers, restaurants and services, and it carries steady traffic from nearby neighborhoods. It is also served by the Marconi/Arcade light rail station, which gives it a regular flow of commuters and foot traffic.
