Moo Moo Express Car Wash has opened its 40th Central Ohio location at 6285 Cleveland Ave. in northeast Columbus, marking another milestone for parent company Express Wash Concepts as it continues to expand across multiple markets according to the Business Journal.

Founded by John Roush in 2009, the Etna-based company began with a single barn-style car wash in Pickerington under the Moo Moo Express name. Since then, the business has expanded its regional footprint, operating 150 car washes across several brands and employing approximately 1,800 people.

In addition to Moo Moo Express, the company operates Flying Ace, Clean, Green Clean and Bee Clean, with its brand portfolio varying by market. Its expansion has extended into cities including Cleveland, Dayton, Toledo, Pittsburgh and markets in Virginia.

The company plans to continue growing, with a goal of opening 30 new locations annually across its markets over the next five years. Its primary expansion targets include Detroit, Pittsburgh, Cincinnati and the Hampton Roads area of Virginia.

Although Columbus is one of Express Wash Concepts’ oldest and most established markets, the company continues to identify opportunities throughout Central Ohio. Roush estimates the Columbus market could support another 20 to 30 car washes.

Several projects are already in development. Construction has begun on new locations in Obetz and at 984 Dublin Road near Grandview Heights. The company has also secured land for future sites at Post and Hyland-Croy roads in Dublin, along Route 256 north of Interstate 70 in Reynoldsburg, and in Lancaster.

Additional opportunities remain under consideration, including sites within Interstate 270 and near freeway interchanges, as well as smaller cities such as Mount Vernon and Circleville.

Each new car wash typically takes 12 to 18 months to develop. As the company grows, it has also invested in its operations, including a dedicated training center in Hilliard to develop technicians and the use of data analytics and artificial intelligence to evaluate performance across its locations.

Despite its expansion, Roush said the company’s focus remains on providing convenient access and dependable service to customers.

With its latest Columbus opening, Moo Moo Express adds another location to its Central Ohio network while Express Wash Concepts continues pursuing its broader growth plans.
