Grocery Outlet is preparing to open a store at 27350 Sun City Blvd. in Menifee, California. Grocery Outlet is a discount grocery chain headquartered in Emeryville, California. According to the company, it is one of the largest opportunistic buyers in its industry. It buys overstock and closeout items, which means the product selection in each store changes over time. Most products are sold at 40% to 70% below regular retail prices, according to the company’s website.

The stores carry groceries, produce, meat, dairy, frozen foods, household goods, and beer and wine.

According to Grocery Outlet’s official website, the company’s history dates back to 1946, when founder Jim Read opened its first store in San Francisco under the name Cannery Sales, selling surplus military goods at deeply discounted prices. The business developed an opportunistic buying strategy, sourcing products such as surplus inventory, packaging changes and product overruns to offer name-brand groceries at reduced prices.

Over the decades, Grocery Outlet expanded its selection to include fresh meat, produce, natural and organic products, and other grocery essentials. The company also developed a business model built around independent operators, allowing local families to own and manage stores while tailoring their offerings and customer service to their communities. Today, Grocery Outlet continues to operate under its discount-focused approach, with an emphasis on helping customers save money on everyday groceries.
