PopUp Bagels is preparing to bring its fresh-baked bagels to Costa Mesa, with plans filed for a location at 333 E. 17th Street, Suite 21. According to local outlet 926OC, plans are pending review and approval, but it could become Orange County’s first outpost from the growing franchise.

Back in April 2025, What Now OC reported that franchise group Sweetzer Capital had signed an agreement to develop 25 PopUp Bagels locations across SoCal. While the LA and San Diego areas have seen a few debuts, no activity has happened in OC yet, until now.

PopUp Bagels was founded in Westport, Connecticut, in 2020. It has since grown to more than 50 locations nationwide, including New York, Florida, California, Texas, Massachusetts, Georgia, New Jersey, Maryland, Illinois, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, Nevada, Alabama, and Maine.

The brand’s signature approach is to serve bagels hot and whole rather than sliced, inviting customers to “Grip, Rip and Dip” pieces into their chosen spreads. Its menu favors simplicity, with five varieties of bagels available — plain, everything, sesame, salt and poppy seed — and classic plus rotating specialty schmear options.
