Saigon Cafe Is Closing Its Doors This Month

Saigon Cafe is a longtime restaurant located at 188 Newark Avenue in Jersey City. It is known for its traditional Vietnamese dishes and has become a familiar dining destination for locals. Unfortunately, the restaurant is soon to close its doors permanently.

The Vietnamese restaurant announced the news of its upcoming closure on social media. In the post, the restaurant thanks the community for its 27 years of support. It will close its doors on November 22 but has not shared the reason behind the decision.

“After 27 wonderful years, it’s time to say goodbye,” reads the restaurant’s post on social media. “Since opening in 1999, Saigon Cafe has been more than just a restaurant. It has been a place where friendships were made, families gathered, memories were shared, and our love for Vietnamese food brought people together.”

Kim Le and her husband, Dan Ly, founded Saigon Cafe, a family-owned restaurant where Ly serves as head chef. Its menu features Vietnamese noodle soups, rice dishes, grilled meats, and appetizers.

Some of the restaurant’s notable offerings include Saigon Crêpe (Bánh Xèo), Phở Gà (rice noodles in homemade chicken broth), Phở Bò (Vietnamese beef noodle soup), and Curry Chicken Puffs, among others. Other menu categories include vermicelli bowls, grilled pork, seafood dishes, desserts, and specialty drinks.

Customers Share Memories of Saigon Cafe

The owners of Saigon Cafe described the restaurant as more than just a place to eat, highlighting its impact on the local community. The announcement received emotional responses from customers who shared their experiences and memories of dining at the restaurant over the years.

One Instagram user wrote, “Doubling down and announcing closing your doors with AI art is diabolical work, but besides that, best Vietnamese food, best date spot. I’ll be stopping in before it’s over.”

Another Instagram user shared, “Thank you for the beautiful memories and so many, many delicious meals. My first taste of Vietnamese food was at Saigon Cafe, and it will always be my favorite cuisine, and Saigon Cafe, my favorite restaurant. We will travel to visit you soon.”

Saigon Cafe’s upcoming closure will mark the end of its 27-year presence in Jersey City.
