Georgia-based Pita Mediterranean Street Food has inked a deal to open near Piedmont Park.

The quick-service Mediterranean franchise will be situated in Suite A of the Azure on the Park development, at 1020 Piedmont Avenue NE, according to plans Thursday filed with City of Atlanta. The restaurant will join Cactus House in the apartment high-rise.

Richard Song, the franchisee opening the Midtown Pita Mediterranean Street Food, in an email to What Now Atlanta Thursday confirmed the news.

“During a summer trip to Italy many years ago I was introduced to Mediterranean cuisine and I instantly fell in love with how healthy and tasty it was,” Song said.

“I recently left the corporate world to start my new venture and found Pita Mediterranean Street Food while I was driving around Atlanta.”

An estimated $220,000 could be spent building out the 2,268-square-foot, first-generation Pita Mediterranean Street Food space, according to the permit filing.

The restaurant, slated to open October 2017, will serve up Mediterranean-style Pitas and Wraps, Platters, Mezzas, Salads, Desserts, and a kids menu.

Song could open several additional Pita Mediterranean Street Food locations, but Midtown was the first obvious choice, he said.

“As you know location is most important when opening a restaurant so when this opportunity came up we had to do it.”

“I have always had an interest in the Midtown area for the diversity, culture and urban layout. There are a lot of residential and businesses to support our concept. We felt Midtown was lacking a good Mediterranean fast/casual restaurant so we needed to be represented in the city.”

Pita Mediterranean Street Food, founded by Nour Rabai, has Georgia locations in Peachtree City, Newnan, Dunwoody, Roswell, Marietta, Columbus, and Sharpsburg, with stores planned in Johns Creek, Peachtree Corners, West Cobb, Smyrna, Covington, and Greenville, South Carolina.
