UPDATE (July 16, 2018): New Renderings and Site Plan Emerge For Phipps Plaza Expansion

Simon Property Group has taken its first major step in moving forward with its $200 million Phipps Plaza expansion.

The real estate firm early last week filed plans with the City of Atlanta for demolition to the soon-to-shutter Belk and its corresponding parking structure, CoStar News first reported.

Nobu Hotel and Nobu Atlanta Restaurant will be built in the department store’s place.

Plans, announced in November 2017, also call for a 90,000-square-foot Life Time® Athletic center and a 12-story Class A office building, complete with a three-story lower level parking garage.

Construction, beginning with Belk’s demolition, could begin any day with a phased opening beginning in spring 2020.

An estimated $6,100,000 will be spent on demolition of the 450,000-square-foot building and parking structure.
