Since the first Little Sakana opened in Mira Mesa two years ago, it has received glowing reviews. With all-you-can-eat options, hearty to-go boxes and an expansive a la carte menu, owners Tuan Nguyen and Jenna Hu have all but dominated the local sushi scene.

According to a recent lease signing, the Little Sakana team will be setting up shop in Otay Mesa’s Palm Promenade Shopping Center at 710 Dennery Road. The ownership has not made any public announcements about this news, nor did they immediately respond to requests for comment.

Prior to opening Little Sakana, Nguyen had already established another popular restaurant called Pokeland in 2016.

Hu’s previous ventures include the ice cream shop ICMonster, which announced its closure one year ago.

In Japan, the word “sakana” refers to the salty snacks that accompany alcoholic beverages. In true Japanese fashion, Little Sakana prioritizes its craft cocktail menu. Featuring drinks like the sakana mule, samurai soju and an assortment of sake, Little Sakana’s Mira Mesa location has established itself as an elevated local watering hole.

Once open, the Otay Mesa sushi bar will find itself nearby the AMC Theater and Home Depot. At this point, the exact suite number of the new restaurant is unclear.
