Atlanta has entered the top 10 of a national luxury housing market ranking. The ranking evaluates the best luxury housing markets in the U.S. by looking at more than just home prices. Atlanta is the largest metro area on the list.
Atlanta Breaks Into the Top 10 Luxury Housing Markets Ranking
Realtor.com and the Wall Street Journal have released their quarterly market ranking and analysis of luxury markets in the U.S. The ranking considers factors including housing demand, supply, economic conditions, taxes, climate risk, and quality of life. For the first time, Atlanta has broken into the top 10 ranking.
Atlanta ranked ninth in the Summer 2026 Wall Street Journal/Realtor.com Luxury Housing Market Ranking. The report noted that Atlanta’s relatively lower luxury home prices compared with other markets may appeal to high-end buyers.
Atlanta is the largest metro area in the list, setting it apart from many smaller, high-end markets. This reflects how larger metropolitan areas are becoming more competitive in an area dominated by smaller markets. The change in ranking also suggests that luxury buyers are increasingly drawn to large cities that combine strong job markets with luxury amenities.
The report notes that Atlanta offers excellent value in the luxury market. The report found that buyers in the $1 million to $2 million range can typically find more space in Atlanta than in many other luxury markets. As of June, Atlanta had more than 2,700 homes priced at $1 million or more. Its top-end luxury homes reached around $3.2 million.
Atlanta’s ranking was supported by factors including housing conditions and economic performance. The metro earned a high score for housing supply, reflecting healthy inventory conditions. It also had one of the lowest unemployment rates in the list at 3.4%.
The metro is also one of the few top-ranked markets to see price growth. Its luxury home prices rose 2.5% year over year through June. Atlanta also stood out for its low climate risk, which has become an important factor in the ranking.
Atlanta also maintained much of the luxury home price growth it experienced during the pandemic. It retained 70.1% of those gains, showing that demand for high-end homes has remained strong.
Atlanta’s strong demand, economic stability, and quality of life helped its position in the list. The metro was previously ranked 11th, but these factors elevated its ranking this time.
Methodology
The ranking compares 60 U.S. housing markets. This includes the 30 largest metro areas and the 30 markets with the most $1 million-plus home listings. Each market receives a score from 0 to 100 based on two main categories.
Real estate factors account for 60% of the score. This includes buyer demand, housing supply, home price growth, property taxes, and climate risk.
Meanwhile, economic health and quality of life account for 40% of the score. This includes unemployment, wages, and the cost of living. It also looks into the share of foreign-born residents, small business activity, local amenities, and average commute time.
The ranking combines housing data with economic and lifestyle factors to determine overall market scores. It aims to identify markets that not only have strong luxury real estate demand but also offer favorable conditions for buyers.
Atlanta’s debut in the top 10 shows the metro’s growing appeal in the luxury housing market.
