Desta Ethiopian Kitchen is planning an Emory Point location.

The popular Ethiopian restaurant will replace the now-shuttered BurgerFi in the Druid Hills mixed-use development, according to “coming soon” signage at the space.

But Desta seems far from opening; several BurgerFi remnants remain.

Inside the space, BurgerFi furniture and fixtures are scattered throughout. Outside, the highly-recognizable BurgerFi door handles still adorn the entrance and an Earth Craft plaque certifying BurgerFi as a “Light Commercial Project,” is still plastered to the wall.

BurgerFi shuttered in February 2017.

Desta Ethiopian Kitchen’s original location—which first opened in 2006—is only four miles away from the Emory Point outpost.

It’s unclear if the forthcoming restaurant will be the concept’s second outpost or, given the proximity, is a relocation of the original.

Desta co-owners and wife and husband Ash Nega and Titi Demise did not immediately return What Now Atlanta’s request for comment.

ShopCore, the company that oversees leasing for Emory Point, still lists the space—B1 140—as available on the center’s latest site plan.
