A local medical professional is bringing a barbecue chain to metro Atlanta.

At least three locations of Famous Dave’s are in the works in the market, courtesy of Dr. Derek Scott, a sports/rehab medicine physician.

Dr. Scott isn’t new to the restaurant scene; he owned a restaurant called Taste of Chicago when attending medical school at Meharry Medical College in Nashville. The eatery served Chicago-style favorites like Italian beef sandwiches and hot dogs to hungry students.

“There wasn’t a place like that in Nashville,” he told What Now Atlanta. “Taste of Chicago was open late for students studying late at night to get a quick snack and go back to studying.”

Now, Dr. Scott is expanding his restaurant portfolio with Famous Dave’s. They are currently looking for locations in Alpharetta and Johns Creek, with Buckhead and Marietta as other target areas, he said.

The initial agreement is for three locations, but he would love to open more, bringing a restaurant to the Peach State that he and his family loved when they lived in Washington.

“Living in Tacoma, it was a go-to restaurant for me and the family,” he said. “That’s when I was first introduced to Famous Dave’s. I’ve been a big fan of the brand for decades.”

The first Famous Dave’s opened in Hayward, Wisconsin, in 1994. The menu includes award-winning ribs and barbecued meats, sandwiches, burgers, salads and desserts.

Dr. Scott loves the convenience and value of the Famous Feasts.

“You order ahead and the food is ready,” he said. “It’s enough to feed a family, and enough for a snack for the next day.”

The first restaurant is targeted for a 2025 opening, followed by two more locations over the next few years.
