Costco has confirmed that its new Stone Mountain warehouse will open this month. The store is being built on the site of a former Olympic tennis center. It will serve as the anchor tenant of the new mixed-use development.
Costco to Open in Stone Mountain This Month
Costco is opening the new Stone Mountain warehouse on August 27. It is part of Fuqua Development’s mixed-use project, Mountain Marketplace.
The warehouse replaces the former Stone Mountain Tennis Center, according to the The Sun. The site hosted tennis events during the 1996 Summer Olympics and was closed in 2007. The former center featured a 12,000-seat stadium and 15 tennis courts.
The new Costco is part of the Mountain Marketplace, which will include apartments, restaurants, green space, and retail. Costco will serve as the project’s anchor tenant.
A report also states that the redevelopment by Fuqua Development will transform the long-vacant property. Meanwhile, Costco continues to expand its presence. The Stone Mountain warehouse is one of seven Costco locations scheduled to open in August.
What’s Inside the New Costco Location
The new Costco warehouse is a full-size location with the retailer’s standard departments. The store will span about 164,000 square feet and employ around 300 people. It will become Costco’s 18th location in Georgia.
According to a report by The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, the new store will offer roughly 4,000 items. This includes groceries, fresh produce, meat, bakery goods, electronics, furniture, clothing, household essentials, and more. It will also feature a food court, pharmacy, and tire center.
The new Costco is expected to bring more shopping options and jobs to Stone Mountain. It will play a key role in transforming the former Olympic tennis center. The warehouse will serve as the centerpiece of the larger Mountain Marketplace development.
