Ponce City Market’s (PCM) Collier Candy Company has a new name and a new home. The store is now going by Collier Candy and Convenience and has relocated a stone’s thrown from its original space in the Old Fourth Ward mixed-use — it has replaced Quick Quick between JJ’s Flowers and Hops Chicken.
“We are still providing Atlanta with all the classic and specialty candy, sodas, and popcorns that Collier Candy Co. is known for, but with some added convenient grab and go products: over-the-counter medication, PPE, small toiletries, and more variety of packaged candies and beverages,” a company spokesperson in an email Monday told What Now Atlanta.
In addition to the new and improved local Collier Candy, the company is expanding with a location in Optimist Hall in Charlotte, North Carolina. “Our Charlotte location will be similar to our traditional Collier Candy Company.” That has a projected opening date of the first week of December 2020. Owner Dan Collier also this month unveiled plans to open an Archer Paper Goods — which also operates a PCM store — in Trilith.
I walked past that Quick Quick every day on the way into work and never saw anyone in there. I can’t imagine how much money it must have lost trying to sell overpriced magazines while paying PCM rent.
Yet how does a shop that sells candy, and overpriced aspirin and batteries pay PCM rent???
