A Buda-based cake business built around the idea of desserts as a love language will open its first brick-and-mortar location in South Austin. According to public filings, Berry Tasty Bakery is planning to open at 429 W. Ben White Blvd. Svrd EB, Unit E, in Austin.

Berry Tasty is a bakery that offers a wide selection of desserts, including cheesecakes, cakes, pies, tres leches, flan, and individual slices, with flavors ranging from pistachio, Oreo, and Biscoff to dulce de leche, mango, and strawberry, alongside classics like pecan pie, apple crumble and brownies.

The bakery is owned and operated by Juanita Rivera, a Latina entrepreneur based in Buda, where the business currently operates a bakery and food truck. What Now Austin spoke with Javier Jiménez, Rivera’s partner and a Berry Tasty representative, who confirmed that the Ben White Boulevard location is expected to open between late 2026 and early 2027, pending permits.

This location will be the business’s second overall and its first traditional brick-and-mortar storefront in Austin.

Rivera founded Berry Tasty Bakery in 2007 after learning to make her first dessert, the traditional chocoflan. a Mexican dessert that combines a layer of chocolate cake with creamy flan, creating a rich contrast of textures and flavors. What started as a hobby grew through years of experimenting with recipes and sharing desserts with friends and family, eventually leading to customer orders.

According to its website, Berry Tasty is a way for Juanita to express her love language through desserts. In 2021, she formalized her training by earning a diploma in basic pastry arts. In 2022, with her husband’s support, she turned her passion into Berry Tasty Bakery, which now operates a bakery food truck at 400 N. Main St.

Berry Tasty Bakery is also in the process of rebranding as it expands to a second location, according to Jiménez, and had not yet finalized its new name at the time of publication.
