After standing empty for some time, the space at 409 W 30th St., once occupied by Trudy’s Texas Star, is showing signs of life. The building has been acquired by iconic Austin barbecue brand Black’s Barbecue.

Coverage published this week by Hoodline says Black’s Barbecue plans to move into the space in about two years, after a long renovation process.

The Original Black’s Barbecue, the place “where legendary Texas BBQ is made” since 1932, has a long history that began in Lockhart.

“Our family has pioneered and perfected true Texas barbecue. Today, five generations of Black’s have made it possible to serve over 50 million guests from around the world,” says the Black’s Barbecue website. “Over the years we have expanded across Central Texas with four locations for folks to enjoy a meal in our dining room. When you come to our restaurant, you’re reminded of the good ole days. People talking to other people, phones are put away, and the smell of brisket fills the air. You truly get a sense of family and belonging.”

The menu in Lockhart features proteins like Beef Brisket, Smoked Turkey Breast, Pork Spare Ribs, Smoked Chicken, and more. You can choose from these for a Single Meat or Double Meat Sandwich, and make it a combo with a bag of chips and regular-size fountain drink or tea. And, of course, there are plenty of sides like Chunky Potato Salad, Creamy Cole Slaw, Norma Jean’s Beans, Mac & Cheese, and more.
