The only churro concept recognized by the Michelin Guide is choosing Austin as its first North American home. According to public filings, Twist & Buckle plans to open at 6929 Airport Blvd., Unit 137, within The Crescent.
Founded by two best friends with South American roots, Twist & Buckle was born out of a love for churros, a popular street food from Mexico that has since spread across Latin America.
The brand has built its reputation around churros made fresh to order using premium ingredients and state-of-the-art churro machines. Each churro is handcrafted, cinnamon-dusted, and served crispy, and smoking hot.
Twist & Buckle began in Hong Kong, where it became a cult phenomenon at its location in Tsim Sha Tsui, earning recognition in the Michelin Guide Hong Kong for four consecutive years, from 2023 through 2026, according to the brand’s Instagram.
The concept has since expanded internationally, opening locations in Singapore and the Philippines before setting its sights on the United States.
What Now Austin reached out to franchisee Daniel Yiming Ni, who confirmed a projected opening in Q1 2027.
The franchisee said he is excited to be part of the expansion of a concept that could further contribute to Austin’s food scene and its reputation as a destination for internationally inspired concepts.
“We are excited to bring this Michelin Guide-recommended brand to North America, choosing Austin as our first and flagship location,” Yiming Ni told What Now Austin.
The Crescent on Airport Boulevard places Twist & Buckle along a high-traffic central Austin corridor. Yiming Ni highlighted the area’s activity as one of the reasons for choosing the location. “It’s one of the busiest plazas in central Austin,” he said.
