A Nashville-style chicken eatery that serves only all-natural, halal chicken is planning a second Cedar Park location. According to public filings, Urban Bird Hot Chicken plans to open at 700 E. Whitestone Blvd., Suite 100, inside Village at Cedar Park.
What Now Austin reached out to founder Brandon Gawthorp, who confirmed that the project is still in the planning phase and heading into permitting. He expects the permitting process to take about six months, followed by roughly three months of construction. “So let’s say around nine months from now, opening,” he said, putting the projected opening sometime in spring 2027.
Urban Bird Hot Chicken is a veteran-owned hot chicken chain known for serving all-natural, halal chicken with no antibiotics or hormones. The menu centers on tenders and sandwiches served at customizable heat levels, including the Tender Basket, Sando Combo, and Urban Fries, a loaded basket topped with a jumbo tender, mac and cheese, Bird Sauce, and pickles.
Asked what made the Whitestone Boulevard location stand out for Urban Bird’s second Cedar Park restaurant, Gawthorp said it came down to filling a gap between the brand’s existing locations rather than a specific traffic study. “Cedar Park seems like a busy area, and I think Urban Bird will do great there,” he told What Now Austin.
The brand has expanded rapidly across Texas in recent years, with locations already open in Houston, Plano, Round Rock, San Marcos, and Killeen, among other cities. The chain has continued adding restaurants across Greater Houston, Dallas, San Antonio, and Central Texas, with additional locations listed as “coming soon” in markets including San Antonio’s Stone Oak neighborhood.
