Dairy Queen is preparing to make a return to the North Shore.

The soft-serve-centric international fast-food chain will soon open at 414 Broadway in Lynn, heading back to the same street it once called home after more than three decades away.

The beloved brand, now a subsidiary of Berkshire Hathaway, traces its origins back to 1940 in Joliet, Illinois, where entrepreneur John Freemont “J.F.” McCullough, his son Alex, and their friend Sherb Noble launched what would become a global dessert empire.

Built around the now-famous “cone with the curl on top,” Dairy Queen quickly grew after beginning franchising in 1944, expanding its footprint and introducing some of its most iconic menu items along the way, including the Blizzard in 1985. Today, the chain operates more than 7,000 locations worldwide.

In addition to the signature soft-serve, Dairy Queen’s menu features a variety of casual comfort favorites, including burgers, chicken baskets, sandwiches, fries, onion rings, and pretzel sticks. For celebrations and special occasions, the brand offers DQ Cakes and Blizzard Cakes, featuring layers of vanilla soft serve folded with fudge, cookie crumbles, and frosting.

The company recently launched the ‘Swicy Menu,’ which combines sweet and spicy flavors. The limited-time lineup includes items such as the FlameThrower chicken paired with vanilla soft serve, as well as Tajín-topped pineapple beverages.

The Lynn franchisee told What Now Boston that he is thrilled to reintroduce the brand to the area. “We are so excited to open a new Dairy Queen in our community,” he said.

The new location is currently hiring crew members, cashiers, and kitchen staff. While an official opening timeline has not yet been set due to ongoing construction and permitting timelines, the team is aiming to welcome guests before the end of June 2026.

For updates, sneak peeks, and opening-day announcements, Dairy Queen Lynn will be sharing progress on Facebook and Instagram as launch day approaches.
