A centuries-old chocolatier with roots in France is preparing to make its Massachusetts debut.

St. Louis-based luxury confectionery brand Bissinger’s Handcrafted Chocolatier plans to open its first two Massachusetts retail boutiques later this year at the Burlington Mall and The Shops at Chestnut Hill.

The Burlington location will occupy Suite 1092 on the main level near Center Court at 75 Middlesex Turnpike, while the Chestnut Hill shop will take over a first-floor space at 199 Boylston St, next to The Cheesecake Factory.

Chief Chocolate Officer Dan Abel Jr. announced the expansion on LinkedIn last week. “Massachusetts – HERE WE COME!” he wrote. “We are excited to announce that we will be opening 2 retail boutiques outside Boston this fall – in Burlington Mall and The Shops at Chestnut Hill.”

According to the company’s website, the Bissinger family’s confectionery history dates back to 17th-century France, where its chocolates were enjoyed by European nobility and heads of state. Today, the brand continues that legacy with handcrafted, small-batch confections inspired by recipes preserved in the family’s 1899 cookbook.

At the new shops, customers can expect an assortment of premium chocolates, buttery toffees, seasonal truffle collections, and other gourmet treats crafted using traditional techniques and high-quality ingredients.

The company currently operates 10 retail boutiques across the country, with several additional locations in development. Although the upcoming Burlington and Chestnut Hill stores will mark Bissinger’s first standalone boutiques in Massachusetts, the brand already has a presence in the state through a network of retail partners, including Barnes & Noble, Brookline Booksmith, and Beacon Hill Chocolates.

An opening date has not yet been announced for the Chestnut Hill location. The Burlington boutique, however, is expected to open on August 1, 2026, according to Burlington Mall’s website.
