A Mexican-inspired cantina in Georgetown has closed to make way for a new concept.

Marker 42 Lowcountry Cantina officially shuttered its doors at 929 Front St on December 8, 2024. The establishment will soon reopen as Alfresco Bistro under the same ownership, according to a social media announcement from Marker 42.

“A new chapter awaits as one door closes and another opens,” reads the post. “We are temporarily closing for renovations and look forward to our Grand Reopening as Alfresco Bistro, led by Executive Chef Eddy Chacon. Please help us welcome Eddy back home to Front Street.”

Chef Chacon, who currently serves as executive chef at his family’s restaurant, Tuscany Bistro in Pawleys Island, will step down when Tuscany Bistro serves its final meal on December 15, 2024.

Local restaurateur and entrepreneur Trevor Day—known for ventures like Buzz’s RoostWinyah Bay Brewing Company, and the former Marker 42—will remain the owner of the new site.

Chef Eddy and his wife, Lisa, originally opened Alfresco Bistro just a few doors down from its new location a few years ago, offering classic seafood dishes and Italian-inspired fare in a charming, old-world setting. The upcoming location will likely feature a similar menu and ambiance.

While a representative for Alfresco Bistro confirmed this news with What Now Charleston, they did not provide an opening date.
